Every year, the Hauts de France region plays host to a number of highly reputed Christmas markets, as well as numerous events linked to the festive season. Between Lille, Arras and the Côte d'Opale, discover our selection of the most beautiful Christmas markets in 2023 in the north of France.
Arras, the ultimate Christmas town
This year, the traditional Arras Christmas market will be held from 24 November to 30 December 2023. And for its comeback, the town of Arras has decided to go all out. Every year, its Christmas market is considered to be one of the finest in France, attracting several thousand visitors. This year, Arras town council has decided to reinvent its Christmas market, which normally occupies the cobblestones of the Place des Heroes, and to take visitors to different corners of the town. You'll be able to discover all the different events organised for the occasion while visiting the pretty streets of Arras. On average, the Christmas market has up to 70 chalets for shopping and culinary discoveries!
More than just a traditional Christmas market, Arras is sure to be a feast for the eyes and a real Christmas town.

CALAIS, ITS CHRISTMAS MARKET AND ITS LIVELY TOWN
As Christmas approaches, the town of Calais will be immersed in a magical winter wonderland from 25 November to 7 January 2024. Streets, facades, crossroads and shops will shine with a thousand lights thanks to the countless decorations and illuminations. In the lobby of the town hall, you can see the automated decorations, stroll around the forecourt, a truly magical space, and admire the giant Christmas tree, the decorations and, of course, the traditional nativity scene.
You can also head to the Place d'Armes to discover the Christmas village, with its 5 traditional chalets selling sweet treats for all to enjoy. The 1900 carousel will transport you into the magic of Christmas. If you're a keen skater, you can try your hand at the ice rink in the enchanting setting of the Place d'Armaes under the Halle (bring your gloves!) or the toboggan run from 3 to 24 December in the Place du Théâtre for the children's enjoyment.
After all these activities, it's off to the Christmas market, where you can stroll around and stock up on presents and take photos at Santa's chalet from 9 to 17 December. 40 Christmas chalets transform the Place du Théâtre into a real Christmas market. Linger over a gourmet break and enjoy the children's merry-go-round. Immortalise your meeting with Father Christmas at Santa's chalet, open every day during the Christmas market.
And to round off your Calais experience, we recommend a visit to the Compagnie du Dragon: Le Dragon de Calais takes you into the warmth of winter and the whole company gets into the festive spirit.
