VISIT THE CITY OF CANNES (FRANCE), PEARL OF THE FRENCH RIVIERA

Cannes is the pearl of the French Riviera and attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world every year.

A CITY KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE WORLD

Welcome to Cannes in France ; a lovely city situated on the Mediterranean! Cannes is the jewel of the French Riviera and attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world every year. Cannes is bordered by the Mediterranean sea and located in France in the Alpes-Maritimes department : the ideal place for holidays ! The city is not necessarily only a city of bling-bling and glitter. Cannes was founded in the 12th century and represents the charm of Provence ! You will love to visit the city of Cannes during a stay in our residence in Vence.

CANNES, ITS FESTIVAL AND SO MUCH MORE !

Cannes is above all known as the city of stars and glitter. Indeed, it is the second French city of congresses after Paris: many events take place all year long in the city of Cannes. So obviously, you too will want to discover this aspect of the Cannes region!

You should also know that it is possible to go and see the steps of Cannes and its famous red carpet at the Palais des Festival! This is the red carpet on which the most famous people in the world have already been able to walk. Every year Cannes hosts the International Film Festival. It is thanks to this unmissable event that Cannes officially became an international film city in 1939.

But Cannes is not just about movies. It also hosts major concerts, shows and theatrical performances every year. If you like the glitter and the world of the stars, head for the Chemin des étoiles. This place will remind you of the famous Walk of Fame in Los Angeles! No need to go to the United States, Cannes is a trendy and very cultural city that has not finished surprising you!

WHAT TO DO IN CANNES?

There are many things to do in Cannes. First of all, we advise you to explore the old town, which is called "Le Suquet". Le Suquet is an authentic district that is named like this, because it means "summit" in Provençal and it is located in the heights of the city. You will be able to discover the narrow streets of the town, which are full of the charm of the Provençal way of life.

You can then make a stop at the Forville market where you can discover many local products before jumping into a small restaurant in the town centre for lunch!

Then make a stop at the Vieux-Port of Cannes where you will find an atmosphere typical of all ports. You'll love discovering the Quai Saint Pierre where the landscape looks like a postcard. Here in Cannes, fishermen and yachtsmen mingle around the harbour. Indeed, if in the past the port of Cannes was reserved for commercial exchanges, it now welcomes pleasure boats as well as sailing boats and yachts.

After doing some shopping in the Meynadier shopping street, head for the Croisette for a little stroll! The Croisette in Nice is the most famous promenade in the world. It is lined with pine and palm trees. A walk that breathes holidays and mild temperatures. In short, it simply breathes Provence. Even if it inevitably echoes the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, the Croisette in Cannes has its own charm. On one side you will find the beach and on the other side beautiful luxury shops and famous hotels.

LEISURE ACTIVITIES FOR ALL IN CANNES

The city of Cannes is full of activities and leisure for the whole family. Young or old, no one is likely to be bored in the city of Cannes. For sports enthusiasts, the city is renowned for its tennis courts and golf courses.

You can also enjoy a boat trip! If you have a boat licence, you can rent your own small boat for the day. You will be the only one on board and you will be able to sail as you wish in the Mediterranean Sea (according to the rules of course). If you don't want to or can't hire your own boat in Cannes, there are also excursions available. You can opt for a day trip by boat to the Corniche d'Or or for a short trip to Mandelieu or Saint-Raphaël for example.

The Casino of Cannes will also delight the most gamblers among you. For the others, there are many other things to do in Cannes, such as visiting the flower market or the flea markets that take place every week in the city!

There are also a few museums in Cannes that can be very interesting to visit. For example, we recommend you to stop at the Museum of the Sea : you will find wrecks found on the island of Lérins and many other jewels of the marine world. The second museum to visit in Cannes is the Musée de la Castre, which is located in a medieval castle at the top of the Suquet (which, we remind you, is the district of the old town of Cannes).

ENJOY THE ENVIRONMENT OF CANNES

Cannes benefits from an exceptional setting. The city is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea and the Cannes coastline is in direct proximity to the Lérins archipelago. Indeed, only 15 minutes of boat are needed from Cannes to reach the islands of Lérins.

We recommend for example to visit the island of Sainte-Marguerite which is the largest island of the Lérins. You will love walking around this wild island and seeing the breathtaking scenery from the many vantage points on the island.

If you want to visit a smaller but even more spectacular island, head for the island of Saint-Honorat. It is very close to the island of Sainte-Marguerite and also has many walking trails and beautiful views to admire. Whatever your choice, you won't be disappointed by a day trip to the Lérins islands!

The beaches of Cannes are also worth a visit. Indeed, the Cannes coastline contains nearly 8 kilometres of beaches, which means you have plenty to do! Whether you want to swim in the Mediterranean or just sunbathe, you're bound to find a place to enjoy the sands of the Cannes coast.

If you want to get away from the limelight of the Côte d'Azur, we also recommend leaving Cannes to discover the hinterland of Nice and authentic Provence by visiting the ancient village of Saint-Paul de Vence for example.
